Mercury recording artist Jamey Johnson is in celebration mode these days. He garnered three Grammy nominations -
Best Country Album, Best Country Song for “In Color” and Best Male Country Vocal Performance. His album, That Lonesome Song,
made “Best Albums of 2008” lists in top publications all over the country, which included all genres of music. Johnson’s hit single
“In Color” is connecting with the music industry as well as music fans. He performed sold-out shows last weekend in Charlotte and Greenville, NC where the crowd sang every single word of “In Color.”
“The critical acclaim for the album and the Grammy nominations are so cool,” Johnson says, “but what has been the most overwhelming thing for me so far is when we’re playing live and the crowd sings every word of ‘In Color’ back to us. As a songwriter, I can’t even explain what that feels like.”
Johnson has always been a fan of vinyl albums and Mercury Records is releasing an LP version of That Lonesome Song on January 27. Since That Lonesome Song was released, it has spent 8 weeks in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart.
The top music critics in the country voted Jamey Johnson #1 in the Album, Single, Male Vocalist, Songwriter and Artist of the Year categories in the ninth annual Nashville Scene Country Music Critics Poll – on stands now.
While in L.A. for Grammy week, Johnson will perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on February 5.
Johnson will be featured on CMT Insider Saturday, January 17 at 1:30PM/ET and Sunday, January 18 at 11:00AM/ET.
